I am the Lamp which the Finger of God hath lit within its niche and caused to shine with deathless splendour.
– The Bab
2300 24-Hour Days Of Daniel
There are many accounts of the execution of the Bab. The following is extremely brief in order to make a point.
The Bab, God bless Him, was executed on the second attempt as the first attempt failed. When they came for the Bab, He was giving final instructions to His secretary. He said He was not yet ready to go. They took him anyway, and when the firing squad fired at Him and the smoke cleared, He was gone. They searched and found Him back in His cell finishing with His secretary.
This shows that God was actually in charge of the timing of the Bab’s martyrdom. I’m thinking that the Bab could not have been eliminated until a certain time span had elapsed.
Dan 8:14:
And he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed.**
The martyrdom of the Bab on July 9th, 1850 is considered by Baha’is to be the cleansing of this sanctuary.
If one counts from the beginning of the Baha’i calendar at March 21st, 1844 all the way through July 7th, 1850, that span of time is 2300 24-hour days. Once the 2300 days had fully elapsed, bringing us to the 8th, THEN the prophecy could be fulfilled. This turned out to be the next day, July 9th.

See Day Calculator.
“The Báb was subjected to bitter persecution in Shíráz, where He first proclaimed His mission and message. A period of famine afflicted that region, and the Báb journeyed to Isfahán. There the learned men rose against Him in great hostility. [They might have killed Him then and there, but it wasn’t yet time]. He was arrested and sent to Tabríz. From thence He was transferred to Mákú and finally imprisoned in the strong castle of Chihríq. Afterward He was martyred in Tabríz.” (Promulgation of Universal Peace) (brackets mine)
**We Baha’is believe the Bab fulfilled the Daniel 8:14 prophecy counted from 457 B.C. to 1844 A.D. as being 2300 years (-457 + 2300 = 1843. No zero year shifts it to the year 1844). The Bab declared march 21st, 1844 as the start of the Baha’i calendar.
There were actually several dates for the rebuilding of Jerusalem. These 2300 24-hour days reinforce the fact that the 457 date was the correct rebuild date to measure from for the Bab.
In other words, how do you know the Bab was that special personage and not someone else? It is because these 2300 24-hour days match soundly as do the 2300 years. Both pertain specifically to the Bab. There is not enough wiggle room to squeeze someone else into both these time frames.
Additionally, 457 B.C. is the same starting point for measuring Daniel’s 70 weeks of years (490 yrs.) to get the advent of Jesus, the Christ (-457 + 490 = 33, age of Jesus in 34 A.D).
